Over 50 Years in business! That’s pretty remarkable in this day and age but that is what Foster’s Truck accomplished. Back in 1969 Floyd and Mary Foster saw a need for a dependable truck repair. Floyd, who was a skilled mechanic, opened Foster’s, a business that they ran successfully for many years. Floyd and his wife Mary worked as a team, with Mary doing the accounting for the business as well as driving for parts in an old ford pick up truck with their daughter Whitney beside her; remember that was before there were cell phones and part delivery services. Many times they would laugh that not only did they raise their daughter but so did the business.
With every truck that Floyd repaired, a bond of friendship was formed with his customers. As his business grew, so did the numerous suggestions that he opened a Truck State Test Lane, and so began another journey. Little did he know at the time that he would work the test lane until he was 81 years ‘young’. Customers would come from miles, not just to get their vehicle tested but to see Floyd. Everyone knew that when you would visit Foster’s you also visited his family through stories that he would share. But he didn’t focus on himself, it was more about his friends, his customers who would tell stories about their families and happenings in their life.
Today Foster’s is a 2nd generation family business. Floyd and Mary’s daughter Whitney, her husband Jim Munro and Jim’s brother Scott are the new faces of Foster’s. Customers still drive near and far. They miss Floyd, but know they are visiting Floyds family … their new friends.
Here’s to 50 more years!
